Can you test the PC with a fresh install of Windows (or dual-boot Linux, if that's something you're comfortable with)? If you still get problems there, then I hate to say it, but it sounds like some kind of hardware failure, and you may be chasing your tail around with software "fixes" that can never resolve the issue. Reading over this thread again, you say you're having problems with other games. But we likely had different issues to begin with - you got error messages, I didn't.
